REGULATIONS OF THE SOCIETY:

1. The purpose of the society: To determine the main principles of
surgical procedures in the treatment of obesity and morbid obesity, to present "surgery" as an accepted and approved option in the treatment of morbid obesity, to organize medical activities, congresses and conferences, to develop educational programmes for Turkish physicians, paramedical persons and patients, to explain the medical problems and complications related to morbid obesity, to promote quality assurance in this field, to advance the art and science of bariatric surgery in Turkey, to prove the fact that obesity surgery is not an esthetic surgery and it is impossible to treat obesity by cosmetic methods, to present morbid obesity as an important problem to all Turkish community and medical authorities, to present the economic and health problems caused by the increase in the rate of obese people in the population, to call the public's attention to morbid obesity and improper weight-loosing methods.

2. The activities of the society are to;

A. supply coordination between bariatric surgeons
B. support the experimental and clinical studies of surgeons, specialists and medical doctors in the field of morbid obesity
C. organize scientific researchs, studies, seminars, conferences, cogresses, courses and discussion sessions.
D. publish medical journals and books
E. supply coordination with other similar foreign societies
F. instruct new institutions about obesity and diseases related to obesity

3. Membership to the society: Each physician can apply for membership.

4. Members of the society:
A. Founder members: defined in Number 3
B. Executive members: actively participating members
C. Senior members: regular, affiliate or associate members who have been in good standing for 10 or more years
D. Honorary members: nonmembers who hade made outstanding contributions to the field of bariatric surgery.
